It’s October, which means the spookiest and scariest days of the year are fast approaching. It’s time for the creepy characters, bloodcurdling screams, and spine-tingling horror shows to be front and center.
Nope, I’m not talking about Halloween, although oh how I wish I was, because then we’d be talking about some serious candy acquisition, fun parties and clever costumes. No, instead I’m talking about politics. The speeches, debates, and ultimately, Election Day. Yep, the horror is real people, and we can’t escape it. Personally, I’d rather get my scare fix watching “The Exorcist” or “Poltergeist” instead of the nightly news, but that’s where we are these days.
While I certainly hope it is a less terrifying process (at least for our kids’ sake), this is also the time of year for all kinds of debates and elections happening in schools throughout the country. From student council seats to homecoming courts, there will be plenty of campaigning, debating and voting going on.
The great news is that you can use several functions of your branded SchoolInfoApp to make elections a much more civilized and less scary process at your school. You can use the app to share information and bios about the candidates, let them detail their platforms, update students on when and where to vote, and announce the winners in real time.
Now is the chance for us as parents and educators to show our kids that elections don’t have to be as terrifying as a horror movie; it can actually be a humane process. There is no need for mud-slinging, name-calling, and whatever else is happening on a national level; let’s save the scary stuff for October 31st.
As for how I’m going to make it through the upcoming scary days ahead? Well, I’ve got several bags of Halloween candy that might or might not make it into trick-or-treat bags this year.
